Newton is the seat of Harvey County and the largest city north of Wichita on I-135. The historic downtown - Main St between 6th and 9th - is surrounded by some of the oldest residential housing in our service area, including homes dating to the 1880s and 1890s. Working in pre-1920 homes requires a different mindset than working in 2010s tract construction: walls are out of plumb, framing is full-dimensional 2x4 (actually 2"x4"), plumbing may be original cast iron, and original built-in cabinetry can be salvageable if we're careful.
Newton Areas We Work In
- Historic downtown / north of Main St - turn-of-the-century homes, often with original built-in cabinetry worth preserving. Layouts frequently need full reworks.
- Westwood / west Newton - 1950s–70s ranches, common kitchen-opening projects.
- East Newton subdivisions - 1990s–2000s tract homes, refacing and counter-replacement market.
- Country properties around Newton - acreage homes, often custom-built, full custom remodels.
What's Different About Newton Projects
- Permits route through City of Newton or Harvey County depending on the address.
- Older Newton homes often have original cast-iron drains and galvanized supply - we plan plumbing replacement at the wall-open stage.
- Knob-and-tube wiring still exists in some pre-1940 Newton homes; full kitchen rewire to current code is non-negotiable in those projects.
- Original architectural details - historic Newton homes sometimes have built-in china cabinets, plate rails, or original cabinetry worth integrating into the new design rather than tearing out.
- Drive time is longer than other service-area cities (~30 min vs ~20–25 min). We schedule Newton projects in batched dispatch days when possible.
